The Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute participated in 2011-2016 in the European network campUSCulturae on multiculturalism and cultural and linguistic diversity. The network revolved arount research into literature and culture aimed at children, as well as the preservation of minority cultures and endangered languages. Other participants in the network, which was funded by the European Commission, were Minority Studies Society Studii Romani in Bulgaria, CHE Consult GmbH in Germany, The University of Lodz in Poland, and the Portuguese cultural association Ponte… nas ondas! The network was directed by the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

The Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute representative in the network was Gro-Tove Sandsmark, Exchange Lecturer in Norwegian.

The campUSCulturae conference: Cultural Minorities in Children´s Literature and Verbal Culture

The Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute organized, in cooperation with the Department of Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies at the University of Iceland and the campUSCulturae network, a conference on the representation of cultural minorities in children’s literature and children’s culture. The conference focused on two themes: Children´s literature and culture of minorities vs. global mass culture for children; and Cultural roots and heritage of minorities and children´s literature and culture. The conference took place on 24-25 April 2013 in the conference hall of the National Museum of Iceland.
