Course in Lexicography at the UoI 2016

The course „Lexicography and Translations“ is taught in the French department of the University of Iceland during the fall term of 2016. Teacher is Karl Gadelii, professor of Scandinavian linguistics at the Institut des études nordiques of Sorbonne University. The course is part of an Erasmus+ cooperation project entitled LEXIA – Lexicography and Open Access Web Based Dictionaries with Languages for few Speakers, involving the University of Sorbonne Paris IV, the University of Gothenburg in Sweden and the University of Iceland.

The aim of the cooperation project is to develop courses in theoretical and applied lexicography at the University of Iceland (department of French studies) and the Sorbonne (Institute of Nordic Studies). These courses are run alongside a lexicographical work on an Icelandic-French open access online dictionary which is a cooperation project between the Árni Magnússon Institute of Icelandic Studies and the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages.

The course is open to students enrolled in the 2nd and 3rd years of the BA-program in French, MA students of French and students in the MA-program of translation studies with French as main language. The course gives the students insight into the main concepts of lexicography as well as into the construction of dictionaries and gives the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of lexicographical work.

This course will also be given in the fall term of 2017.
