The Northern Lights Confucius Institute was founded in 2008 with an agreement between the University of Iceland, the Chinese Department of Education and Ningbo University.

The Institute’s aim is to facilitate and promote Chinese language, culture and social studies in Iceland, via classes, lectures, conferences, movie screenings and other events.

The Institute is named after the Chinese philosopher Confucius and many such institutes are active all over the world.
