The conference Iceland and the Italian Cartography. From the oldest maps of Iceland to contemporary Italian Cartoghaphy will take place on Thursday 15 October at 16:00-18:00 at the University of Iceland.

PLEASE NOTE A CHANGED LOCATION: DUE TO UPCOMING STRIKES, THE CONFERENCE WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE FIRST FLOOR OF HÁSKÓLATORG AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ICELAND.

The conference is organized by the Italian Department at the University of Iceland, the Italian Embassy and the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Language, in cooperation with the Italian Association of Iceland and the Nordicum-Mediterraneum Icelandic e-journal of Nordic and Mediterranean studies.

Maurizio Tani, teacher of Italian Art History at University of Iceland: „The oldest maps of Iceland between Science, Arts and Politics.”

Giorgio Novello, Italian Ambassador to Iceland and specialist on legal aspects of cartography: „Cartography as a cause of International disputes.“

Stefano Ramacciotti, Hydrographic Institute of Italian Navy: „Italian Cartography today.“

Marina Boffelli, indipendent scholar: „The 14th Century travel to Iceland of Venetian Zeno brothers and its consequences on the history of cartography of North Atlantic regions.“

The lectures will be given in English. All are welcome.
