Practical information



Please visit the registration desk to collect your name tag and conference folder. Registration will be open from 08.00-09.00 on Wednesday June 13th and 08.30-09.00 on Thursday June 14th in the common area on the lower level of Veröld. 

Pre-primary workshops

Two practical workshops will be held on the first day of the conference. The workshops are aimed at pre-primary practitioners and will be led by Gunhild Alstad and Roma Chumak-Horbatsch. Conference delegates can attend the workshops if space permits.

Conference Events

Conference delegates are invited to a Welcome reception hosted by the City of Reykjavík on Wednesday, June 13th following the conference afternoon sessions. The reception will be held at Reykjavík City Hall, which is located on the pond in the city center.

A book launch and reception, generously sponsored by Oxford University Press, will be held on Thursday, June 14th immediately following the afternoon sessions in the Veröld Common area on the lower level.

The conference dinner (for those who signed up and paid in advance) will be held on Thursday evening at 19:00 at Radisson Blu Hótel Saga, a beautiful hotel very near by Veröld. It is a lovely old building overlooking the pond next to Reykjavík City hall. 

Meals and refreshments 

Lunch and coffee break refreshments will be provided in the Veröld Common area on the lower level.


Internet can be accessed through Eduroam on the University premises. If needed, alternative access will be arranged for conference guests.  


The official currency in Iceland is Icelandic crowns (approximate exchange rate is 1 EUR = 125 ISK). Recognised credit/debit cards are accepted in all restaurants, shops, hotels and cash machines. 


The native language in Iceland is Icelandic, but English is widely used. However, if you would like to try out your hand at Icelandic, you might find the following phrases useful:

hæ/halló – hello

bæ/bless – goodbye

já – yes

nei – no

takk - thank you

Talar þú ensku? – Do you speak English?

Ég skil ekki – I don’t understand. 


The only public transportation in Reykjavík is the bus system, commonly called Stræto. See their website for information about fares, timetable and a route planner:

The two main taxi companies in Reykjavík are Hreyfill, tel. +354 588 55 22 ( and Taxi BSR, tel. +354- 56 10000 ( When calling for a taxi you can expect it to arrive within 10 minutes.
