Gauti obtained his doctoral degree in translation studies, English, German and Cultural Sociology at the Johannes Gutenberg-University in Mainz in 2001, his M.Sc. in English Literature at the Edinburgh University in 1991 and his B.A. in English Language and Literature at the University of Iceland in 1987. He became a certified interpreter and translator in 1987.
His research interests include translations, English and German literature, the European Age of Enlightenment, language policy and Icelandic contemporary literature.
