The aim of the workshop is to highlight, discuss and examine from different disciplinary prospective Romani “own” narrations in oral and written forms. The workshop brings 24 participants to discuss aspects of Romani accounts in oral culture, in literature, in periodical publications, media materials, educational publications among which textbooks and language learning materials. Participants of Romani background reflect on their autobiographical experience as both Romani culture “insiders” and researchers.
It will be a historical moment holding the biggest so far Romani Studies event in Iceland and bringing into light also the Romani presence in Iceland in past and present. Read the workshop programme here.
The workshop is organized in the framework of Roma in Centre project initiated by Sofiya Zahova (University of Iceland) in cooperation with Kimmo Granqvist (Södertörn University) and Risto Blomster (Finnish Literature Society), and is supported by the Joint Committee for Nordic Research Councils for the Humanities and the Social Sciences (NOS-HS).
